Wolves Scare Off Monsters, 3-1

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Chicago Wolves used goals by three different forwards to snap a two-game losing skid with a 3-1 win over the Lake Erie Monsters Saturday night in front of 11,112 fans at the Allstate Arena.

Forwards Michael Davies, Bill Sweatt, and Guillaume Desbiens lit the lamp for Chicago, while goaltender Matt Climie kicked out 29 of 30 shots.

"Climie and our penalty kill really bailed us out early in the first," said Wolves head coach Scott Arniel. "Once we got that first goal, the weight was lifted off our shoulders and we were able to turn it on."

The Wolves (24-16-4-2) vaulted out to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play with two goals in a 1:46 span late in the first period. Chicago's first marker came at 15:09 when Davies collected the puck out of a scrum in front of the Monsters goal and flicked a shot between the legs of Lake Erie goaltender Kent Patterson.

Sweatt's power-play marker at 16:55 doubled Chicago's lead. Defensemen Brad Hunt and Kevin Connauton played catch near the blue line and Hunt ripped a shot that glanced off Sweatt in the high slot and sailed over Patterson's glove.

Lake Erie's (24-20-2-5) lone tally came on the power play when left wing Paul Carey's wrap attempt was blocked by a diving Wolves defenseman, but the puck climbed over his leg and past a diving Climie (12-13-1) at 11:19 of the second period.

The Wolves closed out scoring when Desbiens picked a Monsters defenseman's pocket, drove the net and from behind the goal line banked a shot off Patterson's back and over the goal-line at 12:35 of the third period.

Patterson (0-2-1) thwarted 26 of 29 shots in the loss.

The Wolves get back to work when they host the San Antonio Rampage at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Allstate Arena.
