(STMW) -- A 17-year-old was fatally shot Wednesday evening in the Bridgeport neighborhood on the South Side.

The boy, 17, was shot about 8:35 p.m. in the 900 block of West 32nd Place, police News Affairs Officer Bari Lemmon said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sun-Times reports the teen was attempting to retrieve a stolen bike when shots were fired. Some of those bullets hit a nearby car.

It is the third homicide in Bridgeport since last month.

A police source said the teen was a documented gang member.
