Six Saturday Shootings Wound At Least Eight

CHICAGO (STMW) - At least eight people including a man in his 60s were wounded in six separate shootings across the city Saturday.

About noon in the Austin neighborhood, two young men were shot in an alley at 615 N. Lotus Ave. according to police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez. They were taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

In the South Shore neighborhood at 10:30 a.m. a woman called police from the 2400 block of East 78th Street and said someone had shot her in the buttocks, Perez said.

She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in an unidentified condition.

A 16-year-old boy was shot about 5 a.m. in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

He told police he was standing outside at 1452 N. Central Park Ave. when a beige vehicle that he said was a GMC SUV drove up to him and stopped, according to a Grand Central District police lieutenant.

An assailant got out of the SUV and fired shots, striking the boy in the back once before fleeing the scene, the lieutenant said.

At 5:28 a.m. paramedics responded to the Division Street address and one person was taken in serious condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado said.

At 3:30 a.m. and also in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, a man who was not the intended target was shot at 700 N. Sawyer Ave., Perez said.

He saw two men arguing on the street and then saw one of them pull out a gun and shoot at the other man, said Perez.

The 25-year-old, who was not his target, was the only one hit. He was wounded in the lower left leg and had been released as of 9:30 a.m. from Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center after getting there on his own, said Perez.

Meanwhile, in Englewood early Saturday, a man in his 60s was shot at 12:45 a.m., said Perez. He was shot in the leg and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in good condition, according to Perez.

A Little Village party ended violently when two teens were shot about 12:30 a.m. in the 3700 block of West Douglas Boulevard.

A 17-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy were attending the party in an apartment in the 3700 block of West Douglas Boulevard when shots rang out about 12:30 a.m., police said. Both were taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were talking to detectives.

Shootings Friday wounded at least nine people.
