Man, woman killed in Bellwood, Illinois, shooting

A man and woman were shot and killed early Monday morning in the west Chicago suburb of Bellwood.

At 1:33 a.m., Bellwood police were called for a report of shots fired in the 1100 block of 32nd Avenue. Officers found a man and woman at the scene who had suffered gunshot wounds.

The victims were taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where both were pronounced dead.

A vast crime scene was set up around the home, with yellow tape blocking multiple streets and an alley. Multiple police departments from outside Bellwood also responded, including the departments from Hillside, Northlake, and Franklin Park.

Video from CBS Skywatch shows police investigating the back porch of a home, and also at one point focused on a scooter in the grass steps away from the crime scene. Several orange cones marking evidence on an enclosed back porch were visible.

Just before 11 a.m., a tow truck pulled up and towed away a sedan with a Bellwood police squad car following with its emergency lights on. The West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force also brought their forensics unit to the scene.

A neighbor, who did not want to appear on camera, said she heard her dogs barking around 1:35 a.m. Monday, followed by what sounded like rapid-fire gunshots. Police lights not long afterward confirmed her fears.

The neighbors said the couple that lives in the home has three daughters and said she's in disbelief that this happened in her neighborhood.

"It's very sad, very sad, very shocking," she said. "I don't know how their families can get through it. They're such a close-knit family."

It's unclear if the victims were inside or outside the home when gunshots rang out. The two people killed have not yet been identified, with the medical examiner saying they are waiting to notify their next of kin.

The West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force was investigating. Homicides in Bellwood are rare. FBI data show zero murders until this one in 2026, and none at all in 2025.

Police have not released any additional details about the circumstances of the shooting. The West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force is investigating.

Police have not yet said if they are investigating this shooting as a homicide, only that no one is currently in custody.
