Second Man Arrested In Shopping Center Shooting
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (STMW) -- A second man has been arrested in connection with a drug deal that went bad June 10 at a north suburban shopping center.
Police apprehended Gary Ladenhoff, 18, of Zion, who allegedly robbed and shot a Waukegan man who was trying to buy marijuana.
An arrest warrant for Ladenhoff was issued after Jeremy Howard, 21, of Waukegan, was arrested on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated battery and armed robbery, according to Waukegan Police Cmdr. Gabriel Guzman.
Ladehoff was arrested Friday, and Howard on Thursday, Guzman said. He was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm and armed robbery.
Ladehoff made a statement to police, but police would not say what he said.
The shooting victim, whose identity was withheld, tried to purchase marijuana from the suspects around 11:30 p.m. on June 10, police said. He was robbed and shot instead, with the bullet passing through his side, police said.
The victim drove himself to a nearby restaurant to call for help, police said. He was recovering Tuesday at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
A report of his condition was not available.
Ladehoff and Howard remain in custody in lieu of $1 million bonds.
