NFL considering ball-tracking chips

In efforts to improve accuracy in the game, the NFL is talking to a German manufacturer that specializes in micro-tracking systems called Cairos Technologies. The idea is to be more accurate in ball placement when it goes out-of-bounds.

Rather than watching where the ball crosses the sideline and then approximating the 70 feet, 9 inches back to the middle of the field, the tracking system could calculate the position more accurately. In a game where gaining yards is important and the ball only has to cross into the end zone to be considered a touch-down, every inch counts.
