Man In Serious Condition After Shooting In Wicker Park

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 29-year-old man is in the hospital after he was shot in the face near his eye early Sunday morning. The shooting happened in the heart of Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood at a music venue called The Point -- and this wasn't the first time gunfire has broken out there.

The victim's boss said he is in stable condition. He talked to him Sunday over the phone but said his employee was shot underneath his right eye and doctors are trying to figure out if the bullet did major damage to his eye.

Businesses in the area say it has become really rowdy lately.

"I got my life savings into it, the violence, but honestly I don't think it's worth it anymore," said owner Jun Lin.

Chicago police said around 5 a.m., a 29-year-old was inside the business in the 1500 block of North Milwaukee when he heard shots and felt pain.

"It's just more random violence that someone put bullets into a business," said Lin. "It was no warning, just bullets flying."

Both Lin and police say the shooting happened across the street.

But this isn't the first time a shooting has happened at this business.

In October, a mass shooting took place outside. Four people were shot, and one person died.

"It's unfortunate," Lin said. "I'm just a small business owner trying to keep my place open."

Lin said despite police presence last night, chaos still errupted.

"They actually had a squad car in front of my business to make sure nothing happens until we closed," he said. "And I appreciate them and thanked them for what we did and we still had people out the woods shooting."

No one has been arrested. As for the victim, his boss told CBS 2 he's the sole provider for his disabled mother and himself.
