Man Killed In West Side Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 36-year-old man who was shot during an argument in the South Austin neighborhood Friday night has died, police said.

Louis Wherry was shot in the head and the abdomen in the 400 block of South Central Avenue about 7:50 p.m. Friday night, authorities said.

He had been arguing with another man, Alfaro said. That man pulled out a handgun and fired shots at Wherry as he attempted to flee across the street, authorities said.

Wherry, who lived less than three blocks north of where he was shot, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's offce.

No one was in custody as Area Central detectives investigated.
