A person of interest is in custody in connection to the deadly stabbing of a 64-year-old man Monday morning on the city's Near West Side.

It happened just before 8 a.m. in the 2400 block of West Gladys Avenue near the CTA Blue Line Western (Forest Park Branch) stop.

Chicago police said the victim was in the alley when an unknown man approached and an argument ensued. During this, the man pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times about his body.

The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died. His identity has not yet been released.

CBS Chicago learned that the victim was working as a contractor and was part of a crew working at a construction site. He was unloading a van at the time of the incident and was stabbed over 10 times.

Some neighbors who saw the emergency response were too shaken to go on camera.

"It's scary, I could've been out there walking," a neighbor said. "All you trying to do is make a living to feed yourself and your family."

Neighbor Billy Barber lives in the home closest to where the incident happened and said police wouldn't share what was going on.

"Just crazy," he said. "How y'all not even get out and talk to us."

Police tracked the suspect using city cameras, ditching clothing, working with the CTA to determine where he traveled from the Western Blue Line stop blocks from the stabbing.

Police were seen searching that area and video from the Citizen App showed the Ike closed for a period of time as police checked the area.

A spokesperson for the CTA said service was delayed on the Blue Line for a short time due to policy activity.

A video posted to the Citizen app showed what's being described as the arrest of the suspect in the case, police only confirming they have someone of interest in custody.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.

Area 4 detectives are investigating. As of Monday, no charges have been filed.
