Lawsuit: Weber Grill Waiter Was Fired For Age
CHICAGO (CBS) - A server who lost his job at the popular Weber Grill Restaurant just north of downtown is now suing for age discrimination.
Bruce Belson filed the lawsuit Thursday in U.S. District Court.
Belson, now 48, worked as a server at the Weber Grill Restaurant at 539 N. State St. from April 2008 to January 2009. On Jan. 16, 2009, his boss, identified as general manager Gina Delmonico, fired him on the grounds that he was "too old for the fast pace of the restaurant," the lawsuit alleged.
Belson claims he was replaced with a younger, less qualified worker.
Published reports say the general manager was 30 years old.
The lawsuit says younger workers at the restaurant were treated favorably, and that Belson was a victim of age discrimination.
The suit was filed by attorney Paul W. Ryan of the Law Offices of Eugene K. Hollander. There was no comment from Weber Grill Wednesday morning.
