This Historic Church Sees The Light With Help From ComEd

True Vine of Holiness Missionary Baptist Church, located in the Pullman neighborhood, needed updated lighting throughout their building. The church was originally built as a bank in the early 20th century with a complex design of hallways, rooms, closets and passages. Pastor Henderson Hill and his staff reached out to the program to brighten up these spaces that had not been renovated in decades.

A ComEd Energy Efficiency trade ally completed a free energy assessment for the church and found that almost 1,000 total bulbs, lamps and fixtures could cost-effectively be made more energy efficient. During a two week period, while working through some very complex wiring, an installation team was able to put in hundreds of new screw-in LED lamps, T8 lamps and ballasts, exit signs and outdoor lighting, while also removing and recycling old and inefficient equipment.

The church's improvements translate into $10,951 in annual energy cost savings and they earned $25,203 in incentives to help offset the cost of the upgrade. Pastor Henderson Hill and his staff at the church could not be happier on the work completed and the resulting increased quality of light. The trade ally is also satisfied with this important lighting restoration project that helped brighten a historic church and neighborhood.
