Halloween Weather In Chicago Area Likely More Trick Than Treat

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The rest of this week is looking pretty dreary in the Chicago area, and Halloween will likely be rainy and cool, hardly the ideal weather for trick-or-treaters.

Around midday Wednesday, Chicago was getting a bit of a break from the light rain that has been falling since remnants of Hurricane Patricia began moving through Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday's high was expected to reach about 59, but that will be the best you can expect until early next week.

More scattered showers will develop later in the day, when a cold front will move in. Gusty winds Wednesday night will quickly clear out the clouds, but usher in colder air, with temperatures reaching the mid 30s in the Chicago area.

The far northern suburbs along the Wisconsin state line could even see a few snow flurries early Thursday morning, though forecast models show the most likely spots for snow in northwestern Illinois.

Thursday and Friday will be clear, but cold, with highs struggling to reach the mid 40s in some northern suburbs, and only about 50 in the city.

Showers are likely to return on Saturday, and while temperatures will be a little better, the high will only be about 55 in Chicago, so trick-or-treaters might need an extra layer or two under their costumes, and a rain jacket or umbrella just in case.

The good news is November should start off on a high note, with Sunday's high near 60 degrees, and temperatures gradually increasing the next couple days
