Driver charged with DUI in deadly wrong-way Eisenhower Expressway crash in Chicago suburb
A man was charged with driving under the influence in the wrong-way crash that left one person dead and two hurt, including himself, on the Eisenhower Expressway earlier this week.
Saul A. Alba, 42, of Carpentersville, is facing multiple aggravated DUI charges, including being under the influence of alcohol involving death and driving on a revoked driver's license, among other traffic offenses.
On Sunday around 4:17 a.m., Illinois State Police troopers responded to the scene of a wrong-way crash on the eastbound lanes of I-290 and Wolf Road.
State police said Alba was driving a white 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck when it hit three other vehicles while traveling west in the eastbound lanes of I-290.
One of the drivers, identified as 61-year-old Andy Orozco of Chicago, was taken to a local hospital where he died. Another driver was also taken to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Alba was also taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
On Wednesday, he was transferred to custody of the Cook County sheriff's office pending his bond hearing, state police said.
