Child Dead, Grandmother Injured In West Pullman Wreck

CHICAGO (STMW) - A baby girl has died following a traffic accident in the West Pullman neighborhood that also left a woman hospitalized Saturday morning.

Dominique Gilbert, 23-months, was pronounced dead at 11:18 a.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Dominique, of 101 W. 124th St., and a female relative were in the crosswalk when the vehicle struck them, according to the spokesman.

It happened at 10:20 a.m. in the 12400 block of South State Street, said Police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan.

The woman and girl were initially taken in "very critical" condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

A Calumet District police lieutenant said the vehicle that hit them stayed on the scene.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
