78-year-old man shot, killed inside home on Chicago's Southwest Side
Chicago police are investigating after a man was shot and killed inside his home in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood on Tuesday night.
Police said just after 8 p.m., the 78-year-old man was found inside the home in the 4500 Block of South Lamon Avenue, near the former LeClaire Courts public housing development site, with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Marvin Cook.
Neighbors told police there were about four men, dressed in all black, who had gotten out of a car, running through the street, and firing shots. Damage remained after the shooting, with one car left with a blown-out window and multiple bullet holes.
Family members of the victim said they believe he was hit by a stray bullet through his window, killing him before first responders arrived.
Police said they were reviewing surveillance video after this shooting, and they seemed to be tracking multiple cars.
Area One detectives are investigating.
