Chicago Field Museum Facing Staff, Budget Cuts
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago's Field Museum is shrinking.
Field Museum Faces Cutbacks
The Field is home to Sue, the world's best preserved T-Rex, but the museum's unable to preserve its current level of research.
The Field is running about a $5 million shortfall in its $70 million budget.
"We can't continue to do everything we have in the past," museum president Richard Lariviere said.
Aside from its public exhibits, the Field houses millions of specimens for research that never go on display and are expensive to maintain and store.
So now, it plans to scale back and cut staff.
The Field drew about 1.3 million visitors last year.
