2 men charged with robbing U.S. postal worker at gunpoint in Chicago in 2022
Two men have been charged with robbing a U.S. postal worker at gunpoint in Chicago in 2022.
Kyler Reese, 21, and Chaun Allen, 22, both have been charged in federal court with conspiracy, robbery of a mail carrier, and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.
Federal prosecutors said the two men drove up to a mail carrier in a stolen vehicle on Nov. 16, 2022, and Reese got out of the car and pointed a gun at the postal worker, demanding their postal keys and mail bag.
The gun was equipped with a "switch" device, essentially converting it from a semiautomatic weapon to a fully automatic weapon, capable of firing multiple shots with a single pull of the trigger.
After taking the postal worker's bag and keys, they fled the scene in the stolen car.
Reese was arrested this week in Arizona, and is due to appear for a detention hearing on Monday. Allen was arrested last month in Chicago, and at his first court appearance on Tuesday, he pleaded not guilty. At a detention hearing on Friday, a judge ordered him held in custody while he awaits trial.
Both men face 15 years to life in prison if convicted.
