Arlington Heights, Illinois approves new 5% tax on streaming services
People living in the northwest Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights are going to be paying more for Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming services.
The Arlington Heights Village Board on Monday night approved a new 5% streaming tax.
The tax is the same rate the village charges for cable.
Village officials said they have lost millions of dollars in revenue as people made the move from cable to streaming, and they needed to replace that revenue.
The funds from the new tax will help pay for a new ambulance, and paramedics to staff it.
