Police responded to a multi-family home at 50 Lincoln St. about 12:30 p.m. Saturday for a report of a suspicious death, according to the Essex County district attorney's office.

An upstairs resident reported finding a female downstairs neighbor dead in the basement of the house.

"Something had happened here and there was a a lot of policemen. I guess they found a body in the cellar," one male neighbor said.

He said that a female neighbor who found the body had initially gone to the basement to do something with a humidifier.

"I guess she was pretty shooken up," he said of the grim discovery.

The Essex district attorney's office, North Andover Police, and State Police are actively investigating.

Neighbors, meanwhile, were stunned to learn about the homicide investigation.

"It's crazy. I mean, it's unbelievable. This is such a quiet neighborhood. This is all filled with families. We go jogging all the time and just wave to people. You see people walking their dogs. You never hear of stuff like this. This is just unheard of. I mean, we can't believe it," said Vinny Pintone.

It was an anxious night for people who live in the neighborhood.

"It's very scary because it's usually so quiet down here, there's not usually much going on," said Ashley Pintone.

"Unfortunately these things happen in neighborhoods like this. It's a terrible thing. I feel bad for the family and its just an unfortunate incident that would happen in a neighborhood like this or any neighborhood," another man said.
