Witch City Gears Up For Its Big Day
SALEM, Mass. (AP) - Salem officials are bracing for huge crowds for Halloween festivities in the "Witch City."
The city's monthlong "Haunted Happenings" celebration culminates with fireworks over the North River at 10 p.m. on Sunday.
Salem, famous for the witch trials of 1692, has been holding a Halloween festival for about 30 years and it's now one of the largest in the world, attracting as many as 100,000 revelers.
Officials are urging people to take public transportation because of limited parking. They also say police will be cracking down on public drinking and any kind of disorderly conduct.
Weapons - real or fake - will be confiscated, even if they are part of a costume.
