Williams College Tops List Of Most Expensive Schools In Mass.

BOSTON (CBS) - Tuition costs at Massachusetts' many private universities show no sign of receding.

Just two Massachusetts private colleges charge less than $40,000 in annual undergraduate tuition and fees, according to Boston Business Journal research.

Below them in this week's ranking of the state's most expensive colleges are public universities in the UMass system, followed by state colleges. At the bottom of the tuition price scale, community colleges can cost less than one 10th of the tuition paid by students at private colleges.

Williams College remains the priciest in the state, since the Boston Business Journal ranked the state's most expensive colleges and universities last June.

Brandeis University, however, vaulted into the top five, with a $2,634 increase in tuition and fees.

Boston College and Boston University remain perennial front-runners in tuition costs.

The value of a college degree has come under scrutiny, as parents and graduates wonder whether the job prospects it confers match up to the high tuition cost.

At least one lawyer is making a practice out of suing law schools on behalf of disgruntled alumni.

Prominent business leaders like venture capitalist Peter Thiel have openly recommended students drop out.
