WBZ-TV & WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Honored With Peabody Award
BOSTON (CBS) - CBS Boston's WBZ-TV and WBZ NewsRadio 1030 were named winners of a prestigious Peabody Award for Overall Excellence on Wednesday, for their coverage of the Boston Marathon Bombings and the week-long manhunt that followed.
In announcing the award on CBS This Morning, the judges noted, "they were just everywhere with non-sensational coverage," saying, "they helped so many people: the police, victims…everybody."

The official announcement of the 2013 Peabody Awards reads:
"Out in force to cover the annual marathon, both WBZ-TV and Newsradio 1030 had a journalistic advantage when the bombs detonated. Neither gave it up as their reporters spent hour after hour on the air providing wide-ranging, enterprising, non-sensational coverage of the casualties, the suspects and the intense, nerve-wracking manhunt. They become crucial sources not just to their city but to a stunned nation."
The Peabody Awards are given each year by the University of Georgia to "recognize stories that matter."
