Tyler Seguin Signs Six-Year Contract Extension With Bruins
BOSTON (CBS) -- Tyler Seguin was the Bruins' top draft pick two years ago, and he's going to remain with the team for a very long time.
The 20-year-old star forward signed a six-year extension Tuesday, keeping him under contract with the Bruins through the 2018-19 season.
The deal will pay Seguin an average of $5.75 million per season.
After a rookie season in which he scored 11 goals and had 11 assists in a limited role, Seguin blossomed last season, leading the team with 29 goals and 67 points. That breakout came after Seguin electrified the Bruins in the 2011 conference finals, scoring three goals and adding three assists in his first two career postseason games. In seven playoff games in 2012, he was one of just two players to score more than one goal, finishing with 2-1-3 totals and a plus-3 rating, tied for the team high.
Seguin's six-year, $34.5 million is right in line with what was expected, based off Carolina's extension with Jeff Skinner (six years, $34.45 million, $5.725 million cap hit) and Edmonton's extension with Taylor Hall (seven years, $42 million, $6 million cap hit).
