Bomb Squad Responds To Tewksbury's Wynn Middle School For Shooting Rumor

TEWKSBURY (CBS) – The Massachusetts State Police bomb squad responded to Tewksbury's Wynn Middle School after a rumor about a school shooting spread over social media.

Multiple police vehicles could be seen outside the school Wednesday morning as State Police said they were investigating a threat. Students were moved to the high school as police conducted their work.

The bomb squad did not find any hazardous items.

In a press conference later in the morning, authorities said a rumor about a school shooting was started on the social media platform "Lipsi" and spread to Snapchat. One student apparently told another not to go to school on Wednesday, and that escalated until other students began to question if there would be a shooting or a bomb at school.

Parents who heard the rumor Tuesday night did not inform the school until the morning, police said.

Police have since cleared the building but they're still trying to figure out who was the anonymous messenger.
