Roy Halladay On Toucher & Rich: Still 'Some Things To Prove'
Starting pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, Roy Halladay missed 7 weeks this season due to a strained right lat muscle. This is one reason that contributed to the Phillies fading to last place in the NL East after five straight division titles.
Halladay spoke with 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich about the frustrations of a team ravaged by injury, Cliff Lee being put on waivers, Jonathan Papelbon, Josh Beckett and a great rescue story.
Halladay missed 42 games himself this season and he hasn't been the only Phillies player to miss some time. What's it like to be on a team that has such high expectations, but get ravaged by injuries? Plus how has the team been treated by the fans since they have underperformed?
"It's difficult, anytime you go to a team that expects to win and you have those injuries and you don't necessarily play as well as you like it definitely makes it tough. We got a couple months here and we got some things to prove."
After the trade deadline past the Phillies placed left-hander Cliff Lee on waivers, a move that surprised many people. What does Halladay think of the move made by his team?
"To me that's something that gets a little over blown at times. You know a lot of teams put guys on just to kind of gauge interest, see where things are at. I don't think they necessarily were looking to do anything with him."
Josh Beckett has blamed many things for his poor performances, but most recently he said that a high level of anxiety was to blame for his poor outings and back issue around the trade deadline. Has anxiety ever affected Halladay so much that he developed a physical issue from it?
Plus a story where Halladay rescued a guy while on a fishing trip.
