1 Dead, 1 Rescued After Rockport Boat Capsizes

ROCKPORT (CBS) – One person died and another was rescued after a boat crash off the coast of Rockport.

The incident happened Sunday afternoon. Rockport firefighters were called around 1:45 p.m., asked to bring an ambulance to T Wharf.

The Coast Guard told WBZ-TV that one person was able to swim to the rocks. A Coast Guard helicopter helped that man to shore.

A second man was rescued from the water by the harbormaster. He was rushed to a Boston hospital but did not survive.

The man who died following the crash was 200-300 feet from Straitsmouth Island.

Both men who were on the boat were in their 50s.

Investigators said a wave slammed into the small boat, causing it to crash into the rocks. The boat capsized after the crash.
