BOSTON (CBS) - The tipster who turned in fugitive Boston mob boss Whitey Bulger is reportedly an actress and former Miss Iceland.
Anna Bjornsdottir had been splitting her time between Iceland and the Santa Monica neighborhood where Bulger was living with girlfriend Catherine Greig.
Globe reporter Shelley Murphy said Bjornsdottir and Greig bonded over a stray cat.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kim Tunnicliffe reports.
"Cathy took this cat under her wing. She would come out every morning and feed this cat. While she was feeding the cat, Anna was stop, and they would talk. They developed a bit of a bond," said Murphy.
Bjornsdottir knew Bulger and Greig as Carol and Charlie Gasko. She was at home in Iceland in June when she saw a PSA featuring the couple.
"She was watching CNN, saw their photos flash across the screen and immediately recognized them as the Gaskos and called the FBI," said Murphy.
Murphy also reported that Bulger recently sent a letter to a maintenance supervisor at his old Santa Monica apartment building, suggesting he and Greig have communicated since their arrests.
WBZ-TV's Paul Burton reports
"He did say that in the letter, Whitey had said how he expects that he'll die in jail, but that his real concern was for Cathy," said Murphy. "He says they don't regret their 16 years together."
The letter also contained an apology from Bulger for not saying goodbye.
