Report: Cole Hamels Open To Red Sox Trade

BOSTON (CBS) - Red Sox beat writer Ian Browne of joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Joe Murray Wednesday night to discuss the possibility of Philadelphia Phillies starter Cole Hamels coming to Boston.

Hamels acknowledged to USA Today's Bob Nightengale that he knows the Phillies will not win the World Series this year, and when asked about a potential deal that would send him to Boston, Hamels indicated he would waive his no-trade clause to make it happen.

"Its a fun city," Hamels told Nightengale. "There's no better feeling than to have a chance to win every year, and they give you that chance."

Hamels may accept a trade to Boston if given the choice, but Browne insists that Red Sox won't give up their top prospects, Blake Swihart or Mookie Betts, in order to obtain the lefty.

"The Phillies will get off those two guys [Swihart and Betts] and maybe have something else in mind," Browne told Murray. "I'm sure the Red Sox are trying to ship Jackie Bradley Jr. in the deal, who's a Gold Glove caliber guy. The Sox can also present Allen Craig, who not too long ago was one of the best run producers in the league."

Whether Boston does make a deal for Hamels or not, the Red Sox have made it known that Betts and Swihart are key pieces for their team in the near future.
