Report: Cherington To Meet With Valentine On Monday

BOSTON (CBS) - Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington will meet with Bobby Valentine about the team's managerial vacany on Monday, according to Yahoo!'s Jeff Passan.

The report states that Valentine could emerge as the favorite for the Red Sox job if the interview goes well.

The 61-year-old Valentine last managed in the majors for the Mets from 1996-2002.

The Red Sox had been interested in hiring Brewers hitting coach Dale Sveum, but he was named the new manager for Theo Epstein's Cubs this week.

Boston has also interviewed Tigers third base coach Gene Lamont, Blue Jays first base coach Torey Lovullo, Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin, and Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr. Lamont, Lovullo and Alomar are thought to be among the finalists for the job.
