Randy Moss Joins ESPN As Analyst, Continuing The Great NFL Countdown Purge
BOSTON (CBS) -- Randy Moss will be a major part of ESPN's transition to new on-air teams for its weekly football programming, adding the former Patriots wide receiver to the broadcast team for its popular Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown programs.
The Big Lead reported in May that Moss was expected to join ESPN as a replacement for the departing Keyshawn Johnson, Ray Lewis and Cris Carter, and a press release from ESPN on Monday confirms the Moss report. Matt Hasselbeck and Charles Woodson have also signed on as former NFL players-turned-analysts. Mike Ditka is also gone from Sunday NFL Countdown, but is staying on at ESPN as a contributor on SportsCenter.
Longtime Sunday NFL Countdown host Chris Berman is also reportedly not returning next season, but no replacement has been announced. Tom Jackson is still an analyst on the show as of Monday, and Trent Dilfer, who was falsely reported as leaving the network, will instead expand his role to be an analyst on both the Sunday morning and Monday night programs. Steve Young is also expected to stay on as an analyst on Monday Night Countdown.
Moss was previously on Fox Sports One, where he often debated and held roundtable discussions with fellow players-turned-analysts such as Donovan McNabb and Brian Urlacher.
