LEICESTER (CBS) -- Police believe they have killed the potentially rabid fox that bit two people in Leicester on Thursday morning.
A resident spotted the fox near Leicester Memorial Elementary School around 6:30 a.m. on Friday. Responding officers found the animal, which appeared to be sick and in distress, according to the Leicester Police Facebook page.
The fox, which attacked two people in the King Street area, was put down by an officer and then taken to the town's animal control officer so it can be sent out for testing, police say.
For the next several days, police are still asking residents to be cautious while outside with their kids and pets.
The incident remains under investigation, and patrols have been increased in the area.
