Police Arrest Naked Man With Arsenal Of Weapons In Home

PELHAM, N.H. (CBS) -- A Pelham man was arrested over the weekend after police found an arsenal of weapons inside his apartment.

Police responded to the apartment Saturday evening after another tenant called to report the man yelling that he "shot four people."

Officers say they found the man, 67-year-old Mark Schlagel, sitting naked in a chair in his apartment with a loaded weapon nearby.

Schlagel told the officers that there were four people that attempted to break into his apartment by cutting a hole in the closet wall. He said he shot them as they tried to break in.

Police did not find any gunshot victims, but found that the man had shot several rounds into a wall.

Neighbor Terry Payne said Schlagel had shot the gun toward her apartment.

"I don't mind people having guns. It's not the guns that kill people, it's the people behind them," Payne told WBZ-TV.

"I don't think we're strict enough on people who we give the ammo and the guns to," she said.

Payne says she plans to file a restraining order against Schlagel.

Schlagel was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital to undergo a mental evaluation.

He will be arraigned in November.
