Paula Ebben In London: Royal Wedding A 'National Holiday'
BOSTON (CBS) - Americans have been hearing about the developments on the Royal Wedding – aka "The Wedding of the Century" - for months now. But this is a once-in-a-generation event for Great Britain, and it's not until you talk to the people of London that you truly get a sense of what a big deal it is for them here.
"There are going to be millions of people lining the streets , says Zoey Labofski, a sales manager here in London, "it's a national holiday for us, and a lot of people will be travelling to London and watching television, and it will be a big event."
WBZ-TV's Paula Ebben reports.
And "big ones" like this don't come along very often – Zoey's been anticipating it for months. "It's such an international event, and it's on my door step!"
She won't miss a detail: "They are like celebrities, everyone wants to go and see a big wedding, the dress, they are royal, but they are accessible."
Young, and projecting an unassuming air, Zoey thinks Kate Middleton and Prince William have sparked a renewed interest in the crown. "They're young, they're friendly , they get out and about about, and they are are seeing people and they're quite cool, I suppose. They're nice, or they seem nice, I don't know them, but they seem like nice people."
Beautiful, fashionable and stylish, Kate invites comparisons to William's mother, Princess Diana. She, too was a relative unknown who added sparkle and flair to what can be somewhat of a "dowdy" crowd. "I think to some she is the new princess Diana," Zoey muses, "I mean, that's what people want, they want a normal girl who can be a princess."
And this nation - and much of the world – will be riveted on that normal British girl as she marches down the aisle at Westminster Abbey to become the world's most famous Princess. Zoey will be one of them.
