NASHUA, NH (AP) -- Lawyers in New Hampshire are set to begin jury selection in the first trial from last year's deadly home invasion in Mont Vernon.

Potential jurors will be brought into a Nashua courthouse Wednesday in pools of 100 or more to be questioned on their knowledge and opinions about the case in which 42-year-old Kimberly Cates was slashed to death and her 11-year-old daughter, Jaimie, badly injured.

The trial of 18-year-old Steven Spader of Brookline is expected to begin later this month. Prosecutors say Spader, who was 17 at the time, was the mastermind behind the plot to burglarize a random house and kill its occupants.

If convicted, Spader faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
