Snowfall Slicked Roads But Didn't Stop Holiday Shoppers
NATICK (CBS) – It was a snowy start to the weekend as several inches of snow fell overnight, causing messy travel for drivers Saturday morning. As the day progressed, though, snow that slowed in the afternoon didn't stop holiday shoppers.
The weather, they say, is all part of living in New England.
"It would have to be the Blizzard of '78 to stop me from coming out here," shopper David Eastmond said in Boston.
With one week left before Christmas, many shoppers joined Eastmond in his resolve, but the snow slicked roads in the morning making travel -even to the mall - difficult.
As a result of the snowy morning, the speed limit on the Mass Pike was reduced to 40 MPH from the New York border through Boston.
Bob Checkosky was driving through Natick on his way to Logan Airport.
"The roads are slick, but moving along OK," Checkosky told WBZ-TV's Paul Burton.
"Left a lot earlier from Central Mass to make sure I could make it through here."
On Saturday night, roads were clear. MassDOT had nearly 500 pieces of equipment on the roads across the state to get them that way.
Despite winter weather Friday and Saturday, Sunday might feel more like spring. Forecasts show temperatures may reach about 50 degrees.
