N-Star Has Explanation For March Blackout In Back Bay

BOSTON (CBS) -- N-Star says the power outage that plunged the Back Bay into darkness March 12th was caused by mechanical failure.

The utility has filed a report on the incident, saying oil from a transformer sparked a fire on a high voltage cable at the Scotia Street substation.

N-Star  called  the blackout an "unforeseen catastrophic failure."
