Mother Raising Money For Son Who Coined 'Boston Strong' Slogan With Friend
BOSTON (CBS) - The mother of an Emerson College student who coined the phrase "Boston Strong" with a fellow student is trying to raise money for her son to take an unpaid internship this summer.
Debbie Dobens, mother of Christopher Dobens, is unable to cover the costs of the marketing internship.
She is looking to raise $2,800 to help him out.
"Financially I can't do this alone as I have been unemployed since October and recently found a position," she says on her GoFundMe page.
"This is my way of thanking him for helping all those people during Boston's time of need."
Christopher and his friend, Nick Reynolds, sold 115 t-shirts with the Boston Strong design to support the Boston Marathon bombings victims.
"The campaign...took off and before you knew it Christopher and Nick raised over $1,000,000 with the help of Ink to the People to support the One Fund," she said. "It was then that both young men became co-founder of 'Boston Strong.' There was no benefit to either student for creating this marketing campaign.
"It was an unselfish act and now I would like to help my son...raise the funding he needs to work for an agency as an unpaid intern to earn college credits for the summer," she says.
As of Thursday night, six donations totaling $265 had been made to the cause.
She hopes to raise her target amount by May 1.
