Bruins Honor MBTA Officer Richard Donohue Before Game 3

BOSTON (CBS/AP) - The Boston Bruins had a special guest waving the pregame rally flag at Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals Wednesday night.

Richard Donohue, the MBTA officer injured during the April shootout with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects in Watertown, served as the featured banner captain.

Donohue wore a Bruins jersey with a "Boston Strong" patch. His wife, Kim, wore a memorial card with a picture of MIT officer Sean Collier, who was killed by the bombing suspects.

Kim made the announcement on her Facebook page on Tuesday:

"I am so excited to announce that Dic has been asked to wave the flag for the Bruins Game 3, Wednesday night! It has been a long 6 weeks with a lot of ups and downs, and it is finally time for Dic to have some fun and get out of a hospital setting, even if for only 1 night! I am so unbelievably proud of my husband and couldn't be happier that he gets to show his true BOSTON pride! Sean, the first wave of that flag will be for you."

Donohue has been recovering at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital since the shootout.

In April, the BPD auctioned off a "Boston Strong 617" Bruins jersey signed by every member of the team. It raised $11,000, with all the proceeds going to the Richard Donohue Fund.

The Bruins currently own a 2-0 series lead over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the series.
