Mayor Tom Menino To Take Job At Boston University

BOSTON (CBS) – The city's longest serving mayor will soon be taking a job at Boston University.

According to WBZ-TV's Jon Keller, Mayor Tom Menino will co-direct Boston University's new Initiative on Cities, an urban affairs think tank.

"It's a great opportunity for me to work with other folks in urban areas of this country," Menino said Tuesday.  "I'm in it to further the knowledge of other individuals in this society."

"It's not only a feather in his cap, it's a feather in BU's cap, especially because Menino was also being courted by Harvard University and if there's anything BU loves it's to slam dunk on Harvard and this is a slam dunk," Jon Keller said.

A formal announcement will come Wednesday.

Former Mayor Kevin White also went to BU after he left city hall.

Menino has also cut a deal with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt to write a book about his time in office.
