Matt Light: Pressure Is On Patriots

BOSTON (CBS) – New England Patriots offensive tackle Matt Light is a pretty easy going guy, so it was surprising to see him get into it with the New York Giants Sunday afternoon.

After a Jason Pierre-Paul sack on Tom Brady during the Pats 24-20 loss, Osi Umenyiora and Light got into a scuffle. On Monday, Light said it was all a misunderstanding.

"There was something on Umenyiora's helmet that I was trying to get off and I think he mistook that as a sign of aggression," Light joked with 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher and Rich.

All kidding aside, the offensive line had a tough go of it Sunday against the best pass-rush in the NFL.

"They're up there. They've got a unique front in the fact that they've got not just four but five or six guys that can all rush the passer," Light said. "That's a rare thing to find. You usually find a couple edge guys like they have in Indy… These guys all across the board can get it done; they're dangerous."

As the Giants drove down the field to their game-winning score on Sunday, Light and the rest of the offense sat on the sideline. This was very reminiscent to a night four years ago in Glendale, Arizona.

"That's always tough," Light said of watching the game slip away from the bench. "(It) brought back a few horrible memories. I think you put yourself in position to do certain things; the rest is kind of out of your control. The defense shut them out in the first half, they got a couple big plays there; obviously the seam to the tight end, the interference didn't help out late. It is the way it is."

After the loss, there is now a three way tie atop the AFC east between the Patriots, Jets and Bills. With a meeting with the Jets in New York on tap next Sunday night, Light said the pressure is not on the Patriots.

"It doesn't get any bigger than New York, number one. It's been a bit of a rivalry over the years, and at this point I think the pressure is really on us to go out there and play on the road, play under pressure," he said. "We're going to have to come out swinging pretty early in that one."
