BOSTON (CBS) – A Templeton man cashed in on the Red Sox World Series win when he played the lottery on Monday.
Jim Aylward won a $100,000 grand prize in the Mass Cash game by playing jersey numbers worn by some of his favorite Red Sox players.
Aylward's winning combination for Monday's drawing was 11-16-19-22-25. The numbers represented Rafael Devers, Andrew Benintendi, Jackie Bradley Jr., Rick Porcello and Steve Pearce.
Even before the Red Sox won the World Series, the longtime fan was counting on them to "hit it big".
Aylward used to pick birthday numbers, but this spring, the players' numbers made the cut.
"I've never won anything that big before," Aylward told WBZ. "Kind of shocked me. 1:30 in the morning I was up looking at the numbers to see if it was real."
For Aylward it's just another reason to love the team.
"They've got a good team, this year, they've got a good team," Aylward said.
He saved half the money and shared the other half with his five kids. He also has nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He says he'll keep playing these lucky numbers and one more. "Number 34 Ortiz," he said.
The winning ticket was sold at Cumberland Farms on Patriots Road in East Templeton.
