Man Suffers Fatal Gunshot To Chest In Worcester Barbershop

WORCESTER (CBS) -- A man was fatally shot in the chest Friday afternoon at a Chandler Street barbershop, the police said.

At about 5:36 p.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to The Fadeaway Barbershop at 42 Chandler St. to investigate a shooting. When they arrived, the barbershop "was in darkness with no employees inside," the Worcester Police said in a prepared statement Saturday.

While looking for witnesses to the reported shooting, officers were told a gunshot victim had been taken from the barbershop to St. Vincent's Hospital.

At the hospital, investigators met with two men who had taken the 30-year-old gunshot victim for medical care. The victim was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at the emergency room, and his identity is being withheld until family has been notified, the police said.

Investigators were told that the victim was shot inside the barbershop after he had an argument with an unknown man. The suspect had entered the shop and started an argument with the victim. The argument became physical before the suspect drew a gun and fired, the police said.

Worcester Police detectives impounded the vehicle used to take the victim to the hospital. Detectives found several witnesses and conducted interviews at police headquarters.

Anyone with information about the incident can call the Worcester Police Detective Bureau at 508-799-8651.
