Man In Wheelchair Struck & Killed In Wareham; Driver Charged

WAREHAM (CBS) – A Middleboro man is facing charges after police say his pickup struck and killed a 24-year-old man in a wheelchair.

The crash happened around 1 a.m. on Saturday on Onset Avenue near Aunt Hannah's Lane.

The victim, Joshua Macro of Onset, later died at Tobey Hospital. Macro's family said he was on his way home with a friend he was hit.

He  had been in a wheelchair since suffering injuries in a dirt bike accident when he was younger.

John Vandeusen, 28, is being charged with Motor Vehicle Homicide, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Failure to Stay in Marked Lanes.

He is being held without bail until his arraignment on Tuesday morning.

Police did not indicate what factors may have played a role in the crash.
