Local Cranberry Growers Expect Excellent Harvest
WAREHAM, Mass. (AP) -- Cranberry growers and state agriculture officials are celebrating what they hope will be a bountiful harvest.
The state's cranberry crop is projected at about two million barrels this year, an 11 percent increase that would put the state -- which has more than 14,000 acres of cranberry bogs -- on track for one of its best harvests on record.
Massachusetts is the second largest cranberry producer in the nation behind Wisconsin.
The Cape Cod Cranberry Association is sponsoring a weekend festival in Wareham to celebrate the harvest. The event includes cooking demonstrations, activities for children and a chance to view a working cranberry bog.
