Lester: Boston Will Always Have A Big Place In My Heart

BOSTON (CBS) -- Jon Lester signed with the Chicago Cubs, but he wants Red Sox Nation to know that Boston will always hold a special place in his heart.

The former Red Sox ace agreed to a six-year, $155 million contract with Theo Epstein and the Cubs late Tuesday night.  According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, Boston offered Lester a six-year, $135 million deal.

The Red Sox couldn't seal the deal and Lester now has a new home, but he wanted to make sure disappointed Boston fans know how he considers them part of his family:

Lester was always a fan favorite among Red Sox fans, even after the "Chicken and Beer" fiasco of 2012. A three-time All Star made 241 career starts with Boston, amassing a 110-63 record, 3.24 ERA and 1.287 WHIP. He missed time early in his career after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in his rookie year, but won his battle and came back to play a role on Boston's 2007 World Series Championship team. He tossed a no-hitter at Fenway Park in 2008, and won another ring in 2013 after going 2-0 while allowing just one earned run over 15.1 innings pitched in the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Those are just a few of the reasons Jon Lester will never forget his time in Boston, and why Boston fans won't soon forget what he did for the team every fifth day.
