Keller @ Large: Brightening Your Mood
BOSTON (CBS) - One of my esteemed colleagues stopped me in the hallway Thursday with a question: why does everything seem like it's gone to heck in a handbasket?
She rattled off this week's litany of sins: our first rainy, cold weather in months; Ebola on the move; the Secret Service coming unglued; the Patriots mimicking the Secret Service and letting just anybody run in the front door; unrest in Hong Kong; no more Red Sox baseball.
I could add a few more, but that's depressing enough.
She caught me a little off-guard, and all I could offer to comfort her was some lame advice about a nice dry sparkling wine. But now that I've had time to think about it, my advice is: look on the bright side.
The weather will get better. Eric Fisher was talking about 70s by Tuesday.
Don't put the grill away yet, which for true New Englanders is no problem because we never put the grill away.
Ebola is scary, but we've had virus scares before and we made it through fine. Remember swine flu, SARS, and the Y2K scare?
The only thing we have to fear is too much Twitter panic.
On the Secret Service meltdown, I think I've said enough this week. But I thought the comparison with the Patriots was unfair.
At least the Pats try to tackle their intruders.
The Hong Kong thing could turn violent, I know, but it is amazing to see non-violent protest on such a massive scale, and if it prompts change, what an inspirational story.
And there is still baseball on TV for another few weeks, even if it doesn't involve us.
Come Tuesday, light the grill, turn on the game and pretend it's the Sox, and all will be right with the world.
And one more thing – only 32 days left until the election is over.
Now that's something to brighten your mood.
