Wrong-Way Driver Killed On I-495 Identified

PLAINVILLE (CBS) – The wrong-way driver who was killed in a crash on Thanksgiving was identified Friday.

State Police said James Keating, 22, of Norton was driving his Toyota Corolla north on Interstate 495 south when he slammed into an oncoming car around 2 a.m. Thursday in Plainville.

Keating died, but the driver of the other car survived. That woman, a 21-year-old from Barnstable, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. State Police said they will not release her name.

Investigators have not said where Keating entered the highway and why he was going the wrong way.

This is the latest in a series of wrong-way fatal crashes on I-495.

Five people died last month when a driver crashed head-on into another car in Middleboro.

Back in July, two drivers were killed when their cars collided in the southbound lanes in Mansfield.
