Harvard DJ uses 'hip-hope' to preach social change
A Harvard Divinity School graduate student is trying to use hip-hop to spread a Christian message about social activism and social change.
Christopher Hope hosts a Saturday evening show called "Hip-Hope" radio on Harvard's WHRB 95.3 FM. Hope plays contemporary rap music along with gospel hip-hop.
The 27-year-old says he uses the show as a way to introduce fans of traditional urban music to hip-hop with Christian themes. He says most gospel hip-hop have messages about civil rights and immigrant rights.
Hope recently authored a resolution calling for the city of Cambridge to support the DREAM Act - a federal proposal that would give undocumented students a path to citizenship through college enrollment. City councilors approved the resolution last week.
