Gresh & Zo: Jon Heyman: Expects Clay Buchholz To Win 15 Games
Jon Heyman, our baseball insider, joined Gresh & Zo to talk Boston Red Sox baseball.
Heyman believes the Red Sox rotation is finally finding it's groove after a shaky start, and there should not be any concern over Clay Buchholz's struggles so far this season.
"I'm not alarmed," said Heyman. "If someone has that great a year where he's in the top 5-6, he's likely to slide back a little bit."
"He's been better of late, and I expect him to win 15 games," he added. "I think he's a very good pitcher, a great number-two pitcher."
There is cause for concern however with reliever Bobby Jenks, who is 1-2 with 9.35 ERA and has been ineffective each time out of the bullpen.
"He has no control," Heyman said. "I think the stuff is fine; they're not overly concerned because he still has his velocity and his stuff together. It's just the command is terrible. He has a walk an inning and as a reliever (9 in 8.2 IP), you can't do that at all."
Heyman also believes Jacoby Ellsbury won't miss too much time with a bruised knee he suffered Monday night, and the reputation he got from missing all but 18 games last season is way overblown.
"I think that was kind of unfair last year. He came back too soon and played hurt. They discovered the injury was a lot worse than they thought," Heyman said of the broken ribs Ellsbury suffered in 2010. "I think we're giving him an unfair reputation here. I think he probably will miss a game or two with this injury. I've heard he wants to play, but I don't think a game or two off would hurt him and I hope it doesn't hurt his reputation. "
