Patriots player helps hundreds of kids get new backpacks at Good Dad Gang giveaway in Lawrence, Massachusetts

On Sunday, hundreds of kids lined up to be part of the Good Dad Gang backpack giveaway in Lawrence, Massachusetts, with the help of New England Patriots wide receiver Kyle Williams.

"We do this because Lawrence is one of the poorest cities in the country, definitely one of the poorest cities in the state of Massachusetts, and the people really need it," Good Dad Gang founder Daniel Carrillo said.

Valerie Becker came with her son and nephews.

"This supports the community of Lawrence. Sometimes, especially right before the school year, parents are running around trying to get things together and this really helps us out," Becker said.

Coming off a big preseason touchdown catch Saturday night, Williams was on hand in Lawrence and helped sign autographs and hand out backpacks to kids.

"Sports can take you so far, but education opens so many doors that you wouldn't even think. Everything is bigger than football at the end of the day. So anything I can do outside in the to let people know that it's more than just what I do on the field, I'm blessed to do it," Williams said.

Good Dad Gang is a nonprofit organization and clothing line that began 12 years ago, empowering fathers to be the best dad they can be. Today they gave out 1,000 backpacks.

"This is great. I think everyone is familiar with the messaging last year with the Patriots players, 'We all we got, we all we need.' They don't understand the magnitude of it and what it really means until you see in practice. We are all part of the same community and the Patriots players practice what they preach," Mahlon Williams of I Love Boston Sports said.

Young 9-year-old Adalie Arias was not only empowered, but also full of joy and appreciation.

"I got a backpack full of school supplies … really thankful," Arias said.
